It appears that the fellow on right is in more trouble than the guy with on the lift who has a gun. The approx. 600 x 800 px sized image doesn't give me enough image to tell very much about the processing, Alan. My eyes are in such bad shape these days is is almost impossible for me to pick up any subtleties.

Right you are Kelly, the guy on the right is pointing his finger. Even though the Super D is an SLR, using it with a Petzval and really slow film isn't the best for "action", probably shot this at f8 or 11 which means pretty narrow DOF, especially with a Petzval. But it was still fun, and the re-enactors are always fascinated by the old camera etc.

The use of film certainly adds a unique feel to these type of shots, Alan.

Thanks Kelly,
The folks who do this sort of re-enacting appreciate it when someone tries to get as close as possible to the era photographically. I'm still scanning negatives from my day at the Heritage Village.

This one really shows the spherical aberration of the Petzval, the lady on the porch is the center of focus:

A lot of the imprefections of the traditional photographic tools and equipment are what give these images that look authenticity.

Very true. But some things never change. Then as now, there is no problem that can't be solved by the appropriate use of explosives!

Glad you guys enjoyed these.

The "gunfights" start again in the fall.
