This shot is rather thought provoking. What exactly am I looking at here? (i.e. significance or insignificance of the -1km marker)

Interesting shot. I'm thinking that from the center of the 0 meashurement, 1 direction to something would be positive and the other direction would be negative. therfore its -1km. lol

worm324,
But where is the 0 measurement point? Is it the art form? According to relativity laws, no point can be considered really different from the other rest? |

All roads here start at 0 from the south and west. It would reason that in this case -1 marker being in an empty field would indicate that the beginning of the road is 1 km to the east from the marker. Tho I can't figure why to place a -km post.
That being thrown in, it is a great composition with the objects being just out of alignment. |

I'd guess that the sea used to reach here and is not 1km away.
It's a weird location. What's the thing in the background? |

Cedric is right.
The thing in the distance is a* fetter that also acts as a windvan and marks the end of the Netherlands. |

But do you consider the shadow of a subject to be space too? What if it was the subject? I'm reminded of a photo from the series "Earth from Above" photographed by Yann Arthus-Bertrand: http://www.yannarthusbertrand.com/ya...109&pais=Niger. As you can see, the shadows of the camels are more evident that the camels themselves.. I think negative space does not have to be interrupted by physical matter, but any contributing element to a composition. Of course, I'm still reading about it and google is providing me with the reading material ![]() |

Waleed,
That is truly something to ponder on. For me negative space has always been the bugs bunny effect described by Bette Edwards in her book "Drawing on the right hand side of the Brain" (see http://painting.about.com/od/paintin...ativespace.htm). And what a great (and approriate ) image of the camels! |
