Composition is okay. I'd take a second look at your B&W conversion process though. As is, it's a little hard to tell where the land ends and the sea begins. The overall scene is pretty flat, tones-wise.

Much better! I like this. Clouds are more interesting and there's a clearer delineation between the sea and the sky. Good fix.

I need to write more tutorials! I've been slacking on those. I have one on B&W conversion (check June for that), but there's plenty of different ways to convert to b&w.

No kidding. I mainly use ACR 7/ Lightroom 4. Check the gray scale button and work color luminescence sliders. Some landscapes need a color temperature adjustment. There are photographers swear by the channel mixer in Photoshop, others are in love with Silver Efex. Wars have been fought over less important things. Bayer filters inherently capture color, but B&W conversions can be amazing. B&W is one place where less is more.
