Default A new feature gallery

Just uploaded to my BW site, please take a look, your comments appreciated

I have made another Feature Gallery on my site, Called "Sunlight and the Aire Valley", it shows how you can use the light to set the mood of an area, the Aire valley is very industrial and i have tried to capture the feeling here.

Absolutely stuning ... all of them. Can you tell us a bit about how you approach this. I mean how you scout the locations and anything that sheds light on how to aproach this kind of picture taking?

The vertical image just popped out at me right away. Love it. Have you thought about maybe cropping a little more of the sky, bringing the end of the photo to just right above the branch of the dead tree. I don't know if this will improve it, but might be worth a try. Just some nice tones there.

Oh, and image AV11 is just outstanding. How do ya do it? You have mastered the technique off taking pictures facing the sun. Either having the sun hiding behind clouds (fully or partially), trees, etc. Keep it up. Oh and send me a print too while your at it

I thoroughly enjoyed viewing the pics of the Aire Valley and the Abbey. They were all beautiful! I really like the various angles and presentations you made of these areas. The Abbey looks like a fantastic place for a photo shoot. The images are so rich with texture and detail. I think my favorites were #'s 3, 7, 8, 14, 21...if I HAD to choose! Of the Aire Valley, I liked #'s 2 and 5 the best. At this point in my experience, I won't even attempt to critique. Hopefully my stating which are my favorites, because of subject matter and the qualities of light, will suffice!

Some very nice images there martin. I find it interesting how B&W can sometimes show so much more emotion than colour.

My approach to taking photos like theses is been there at the right time, i find it better to control the light when the sun its quite low, at this time of year in the UK between 5~ 8ish, also the cloud has to be there but broken in patches so shafts of light will force there way through theses, when the Sun is low it gives texture by shading the landscape, i restrict my choice of lens to two, a 17~40 and 70~200 zooms this way i am not having to think to hard which lens to use, i tend to use a grad grey filter to balance the light somewhat and exposure is always biased towards the highlights, the shadows can be brought back in PS, and thats my approach to taking most of my lanscape work
Regards
MARTIN
