I would also say White Throated Sparrow but it doesn't have a well defined white "bib", perhaps just a juvenile? I find it difficult to get clear photos of them since they're always foraging under some thickets.

I am pretty sure this is a Savannah sparrow. Very nice photos of a beautiful bird.

Interesting; it could be a savannah sparrow but it does not have the long yellow lore or heavy streaked breast...

Sorry, maybe I was out in left field, but it doesn't seem to have the crisp clear black and white markings around the head that I am used to seeing. I am sure the others are right now after looking more. I'm sorry for adding confusion. It is a beautiful bird.

The sparrows here in midwest are considerably duller, so your posting is appreciated. Here is a web page that deals with the polymorphism exhibited by this species common in the eastern U.S.:

White-throated Sparrow: Bird of the Month - Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center - National Zoo| FONZ

The tan striped is a duller morph of the white throated sparrow.

There are two color variations (morphs) of the White throated Sparrow. I have correctly identified this bird as the duller variation of this species: the tan striped sparrow. FYI here is yet another web page that indicates the difference:

White Throat, Tan Stripe

Oh, and it turns out this species is native to my area in the winter. Photographed a white-striped out my window a few days ago. That morph has more yellow behind the beak. (according to the Sibley guide Page 494)

DSC_8469crv.jpgThis year I have started adding lots of millet to my feeders outside. Sparrows LOVE millet. I have a gang of about 20 or so that stay pretty much outside my window. Mostly they are Tree and House sparrows. A couple of days ago I was rewared with this shot: A white-striped white-throated sparrow. Whew. What a name. And anyway - how are we to tell them apart when they interbreed on top of all this??
