A small trail of snow flakes left behind as the Eagle lifts-off the ground.
The second photo is of an Eagle voicing a call after landing. Tom in Iowa __________________

Thanks jhawk, Shantel, ront, Lyle A, lakejessup, Slag & JDArt for your comments. Today I went ahead and printed Photo #1 in the form of a Gallery Print with a black border and the simple title of American Bald Eagle at the bottom. The print does look nice in that style. During some of the cloudy weather forecast for the next several days I'll mat and frame the print to see how it looks in its final form and then find a place to hang that on the wall.
Simple pleasures in life are hard to beat. I seldom tire of any of the Eagle images hanging on the walls here. Daily I find myself letting my casting an eye on various prints hanging around the room and letting my gaze wander around the images taking in the details as I think, ponder and remember. Thanks gaopa2, lvthunder, Brian and Jerry
lvthunder: I estimate I was approximately fifty yards or maybe a little farther from this wild Bald Eagle. There were several factors that helped me though. I was in a vehicle at the south end of the field looking to the north. I was in a low spot looking up a slope. The afternoon sun was to my back. The wind was blowing from the south to the north. The Bald Eagle was just beyond the crest of a hill. I was in a good position and most of the conditions were favorable. I just had to be patient and wait for the Bald Eagle to come up, lift-off and take flight. Unless it was startled, I could assume it would take off into the wind which means it most likely would be facing mostly in my direction. I just had to be alert and be ready. I kept my eyes on the Bald Eagle and waited. I believe it saw another Bald Eagle as it lifted off. Its eyes locked focus and didn't glance at me. I was lucky enough to time the shot and had focus to get this photograph. I was using the 80-400 Nikon lens. Thanks to all for the compliments on this shot. It is one of my nicer Bald Eagle photos and does look nice as a large print. Tom in Iowa |
