Only one in focus - PhotoCamel

I shot tihs picture:

a while ago.
Only one bird (the bottom right) is in focus.
How to I get them all in focus?

Cool shot! Not sure if your question is serious or not - but I guess that the answer is to have them all in the same focal plane and/or to have an extremely small aperture

I allready used Av=13, Tv=1/50s @ ISO 100, and had to act really quick.
Is there any way to get birds in one focal plane?*

I think and I am not totally sure on this that a loger focus lengh helps with this as well as aperture

I think if you breed them yourself and get them trained to do synchronised flying then it may be possible. Too much effort for me though

Depending on camera make and model, you can try what Canon terms A-DEP mode (not sure what other manufacturers term this feature). It essentially looks at the AF points and attempts to select a setting that will have everything within the AF points in focus. Rather like an auto hyperfocal distance calculator. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't interpret things like you might want, other times it just laughs and says "No Way". Outside of that, just try to stay between f/11 and f/16 and pray. Beyond f/16 the laws of optical physics start smacking you around. This isn't to say that you can't shoot beyond f/16. Its just that tinier apertures begin to show evidence of the duality of light (wave/particle) and light's wave nature starts to dominate with diffraction entering the scene.

I really like that thought. To expand the quantum theme, I particularly like the idea that really small apertures take on the qualities of 'Schrodinger's cat' where all states exist until the image is viewed. Should help me to get more stock photos accepted
