What would be a good lens to start with?

Sunhawk and I have Canon T 2`s with the kit 28-90 lens....I`ve just about had it with this lens.

If you are on a budget, try to find an old, rechipped Sigma 400/5.6 Apo. Otherwise just get anything from Canon with 300mm+ and some converters

Definitely longer than 300. At 300mm, you have to be pretty close to the birds for proper portrait.

I fully agree with jfrancho. Once you get into bird photography, you never seem to have enough reach.
