Osprey...

taken while testing a Rebel XTi at ISO 400, F 8, 1/1250 with at with 100-400mm at 400. The image was cropped about 75%...still very good. What do you think?

I have been posting images of nesting ospreys since last year in a regular basis and have been following this pair since March 15, so far there are no sign of hatchings but it is a long process and last year the newborns did not leave the nest until late June.

There is no much activity now other than, nest maintenance and incubating the egss, a shared duty although the female spends most of the time on then nest. The male is usually fishing or perching around to defend the nest from intruders. Today two adult bald eagles made several close passes at the nesting female but she did not abandon the nest; the male osprey came and attacked the bald eagles and interestingly, crows joint the attack on the bald eagles.

Is there any question why it's a bird of prey !!

I think it is a great shot. Love the way the feathers on the head are blown back.
