This is twice now they have replied to me following a query they seem to be very helpful.
Good deal Mark. I look forward to hearing your results since I have been using the 9 point pattern lately.

I'm hoping there is plenty of discussion, questions and answers that come from this thread.

Kevin I used center weighted average yesterday and I may begin using this setting. I will give it more trial but I believe I had positive results.

I know they many of us use a noise reduction application but was curious since Mark's high ISO thread what your in camera settings for noise reduction are.

Is this thread going to be made a sticky?

I've used it Mark but only to see if it worked, which it did. I use FoCal which I got when it was first started. A fantastic program that gives consistent results. My only problem with it is it needs a reasonable PC to run it and my laptop isn't up to the task and it's difficult using my desktop PC as I can't get the 25 times focal distance for my 500L or 500L and 1.4x extender.

Like Mark, I have it disabled Bill. I'll put a link to this thread in the Bird Photography - Technique sticky Bill.

Funny you should say that, I have been looking at focal today, It looks like a hassle free way to MFA all your lenses automatically.

I'm not sure about Canon, but for Nikon most in camera settings will only affect jpegs -- thus it will affect the image you see in review on your LCD, but not the RAW image itself. Might want to check on the case with Canon.

7d Mark ll
settings mostly the same as others but just trying over the last to weekends some new things
I was the same as Kevin with AV /set F and ISO let camera do speed
But I have been trying out manual/set speed and f and let camera set auto ISO
I have tried this because the owls I have been trying to shot would fly between sky and bush constantly and this would muck up settings to fast to change but with new set up no probs
