Tip: concentrate as much on your background as you do on the subject. Try to find a non-distracting background, with as few out-of-focus branches as possible.

welcome her in the forums . . . i'm a newbie too. im very glad about your hummingbirds . . . in germany we have non. hope to see some in our holidays in costa rica in may.
your pics . . . hmmm . . . a little noisy and i'm missing the crunchy sharpness. but i think this will go better and better as time goes by. regards from germany . . . thomas |

Thanks for your comments and tips. I am thinking of buying 100-400 F4 IS with 1.4x for birding and wildlife, can you guys please suggets how will that be? I am thinking of zoom because its versatile, done anyone here use it for birding? please help. Thanks, Mallik |

The 100-400 is a nice lens for the price, I do own one. You will almost always be at 400mm for birds, as far as the 1.4x it is okay but you will lose auto focus on the rebel like you have. You can tape the pins but I do not recommend that. I wouldn't say not to get the extender but you will have more keepers to get as close as you can and then crop a bit vs the 1.4x combo. The prime 400mm f5.6 is a nice lens also but you will lose IS, but if you are using a tripod it really does not matter. That 100-400 is all I used for birding and wildlife without extenders for awhile then I upgraded my lenses. Your right about it being versatile. Good luck with your choice of new gear.
