Hi, i took these images while on holiday in the New Forest, Hampshire, England, has anyone got any idea as to what bird it is, i was told that it is a crossbill and was a winter visitor and it had not returned to its country of origin.
Many thanks, phil pink bird.jpg pink bird_1.jpg pink bird_2.jpg pink bird_3.jpg __________________

It resembles a Budgerigar, but I did not think they could be bred to such a deep pink color. They are sometimes dyed to look red. It does have blue wing feathers and white areas on the wings like a normal budgie. Interesting!

Interesting bird. Wonder if it has a leg band (ring), as it must be an escaped pet. They can be very tame.
On the Internet I learned more about Bourke Parakeet, Bourke Grass Keet (Neophema Bourkii) Not a Budgerigar, but in a different family of Grass Parrots, from Australia, where they are endangered, but commonly bred in pet trade. There are many color mutations They are quiet during the day, most active early in the morning and before dark. There are several color varieties; this one appears to be Rose Opaline rose opaline __________________
