I'm lucky enough to have some of these visiting the garden at the moment – they are on the red list here. Easily distinguished from the house sparrow (although they happily mix with them) as they have a chestnut crown and a patch at the side of the head.

Would that be Fairburn Ings? We went there a good while back when some eejit had burnt a hide down

We don't often get TSs in but this time of year there are a lot of different visitors with all the parents introducing the kids to an easy/safe option

Yes Pat, Fairburn Ings is my nearest RSPB reserve so I spend a fair amount of time there I actually travelled to an RSPB reserve on the Mersey a few years ago and that had been destroyed as well My nearest Yorkshire Wildlife Trust reserve also has problems with vandalism. It's a very sad world we live in

Not surprised about Merseyside. OH (Scouser) is happy he moved away from there.
Our favourite RSPB is Leighton Moss - there's so many other places around there too - like Trowbarrow and Gatebarrow.
