I have a couple of books ordered for identifying birds so until then I will just call this a bird in the wheat.

Very nice shot. Can't help with the id as I don't know where it was taken but I would hazard a guess that it's one of the many different sparrows there are.

Thanks guys for all the comments. I just had one of my books arrive this morning and looking it up my nod goes to the Female Red Wing Black Bird but what do I know. The picture in my book is not a perfect match for the colors around the head but the markings on the wings and belly are very close. This Red Wing Black Bird (see picture) was only a short distance away as well. I have also included another view of this same bird that may be more helpful.
