Default Green Heron

Picked this up yesterday afternoon at a wildlife refuge in Turrell, AR.* Shot with 100-400 @ 400 f8 @ 1/400sec, ISO 400.* I bumped up the color a bit in LAB mode, tell me if I went too far.* Also, Note to self, get a bean bag support for truck window!*

Nice shot, I love the duckweed in the water... I think that's a green heron. Did you get to watch him hunt for a while? They are wicked hunters.

Strange you should ask. I was up on a levy and the bird was about 30 or so yards below me. It seemed terrified that I was watching. He/she even crouched down. I thought it would fly off.

Yeah, they seem a lot more secretive than Great Blues... that's a close shot for a green... you must be naturally sneaky.

Nice find, they amaze me how they hunt from a branch, they strike straight down from the branch.

Jim, I really don't think so. We had a couple of the yellow crowns I presented in a previous thread and this bird doesn't look like them at all to me. I think Rob may have identified this for me. My bird book is lame, one that has colored paper rather than actual photos of birds. I have to get a good book. B
