Looking at the work by everyone here is fun (and a bit intimidating, too). I took the before and after of my granddaughter a couple weeks ago with my 40D and 50 1.4. I liked the image pretty much unchanged, but played with saturation, softening, etc., to come up with the second version. Comments and your versions welcomed.

Cute girl. I like your first version better. I'm surprised nobody took you up on this. I will try to give it a whirl later.

What the heck, I figured I would give it a quick shot.
Increased midtones, saturation by about 16, slight adjust to contrast and highlights, Dodged hair highlights slightly. That's about it. Forgot, just a little sharpening. ![]() |

Here's my try
-Warming photo filter -Levels -Hue/Saturation to bring the colors in her sweater -Brightness/contrast on a mask to bring out the colors in her eyes -Layer with a setting of soft light to burn down the fence in the background and I lowered the opacity of the layer -Dynamic skin softener filter with Nik Software -Another brightness/saturation to brighten the overall image -Then the border |

I really love your first version its softness makes it more beautiful, like her.
![]() Hope you don't mind my play, I upload all plays as private only I can view. I'm trying to learn B&W conversions in particular but I seem to like contrasty and bright and sometimes the eyes get too dark and contrasty, so I hope you don't hate it. I'll take it down if you want. I don't have a willing model lately.![]() I did some curves, levels, channel mixer monochrome and adjusted contrast to the left and the others a to the right until I liked it. I'm really new to this and if anyone has tips I'd appreciate them. Oh and I played with the depth of field adjustments on Paint Shop Pro 12. |
