Assignment: The basic shapes

Triangles, rectangles and ellipsis(/circles) are the basic shapes of Architecture.

For the next two weeks, shows us architectural photo's that have at least two of these shapes in them. Top marks are for photo's that have all three shapes.

If a curved triangle and semi-circular balconies count then this Lisbon building in the port area has all three (although it does have some circular windows.)

Film star...

This is the entrance to the old Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield Ohio. Discontinued as a prison in 1990, it has been used in at least four movies, and probably was most noted as the setting for The Shawshank Redemption.

I needed at least 17mm to make the composition, so I made it with the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L, that's why you see the distortion.. My tilt-shift was 24mm, but couldn't cut it.. I'm looking forward to the release of the Canon TS-E 17mm f/4L

Yes it is.. The top resembles a ship in many aspects, the sale & side circular windows.. The balconies gave me the appearance of lifeboats with their contrasty lines..

I like it.. Is it a hotel?

Not entirely sure, but I think it's an office-block.

There are actually two of these buildings, identical, more or less side by side, but there was so much extraneous stuff between them in the original photo that I cropped the other one out.
