I another thread, some days ago, I wrote:
'For those who haven't come across these old gothic carvings, they were stone water-spouts carved as faces or figures which protruded from the rain water gutters of churches, castles and the like. Often they were carved as demonic figures and, protruding from the church or monastery roof, these were said to be evil spirits fleeing the holy place.'

You can see how this one, like all of them, is really a channel open at the back.

Nice photos, where did you take them? I particularly like the second gargoyle.

I shot some gargoyles on Milan's cathedral (il Duomo). Unfortunately I did not have a good zoom (nor a good wide lens).

Never mind. These are very nice examples and any lens disadvantage doesn't show. I particularly like the face.

Nice thread, I love gargoyles.
This is one of my favorites from my analog SLR time. Shot on film and scanned using a Minolta Dimage scanner (without a clue how to get a good scan) in 2002.
I still have plans to go back there to make some decent (digital) shots.
