Default Fun with DOF

Back in November, when I got my 50mm 1.4 lens, I did this little exploration of depth of field. The f-stop is noted on each shot.

While I think the ducks are cool, but I love how the texture of the table changes. Starting out as a small "stream" for the one duck that is in focus and then widening out to accommodate the rest of the flock as they come into focus. Fun stuff.

I work for a water district, those (except for the one in the Hawaiian shirt) are promotional ducks we give away. When the shipment came in, I grabbed a bunch and took them outside to get some pictures. The one in the shirt is mine though.

I have the 50mm 1.4 on my list... I have read the reviews and it is an awesome fun lens...

I like what you have done here, it looks fun. I really like the look and effect of what the ducks are sitting on... What is it ? It almost looks like wet sand...

Good practical series, really does explain DoF very well. I'm torn between 50mm 1.4 and 35mm f2.0. With a cropped sensor the 50mm becomes equivalent to 85mm, so I'd like to get back to a truer 50mm focal length by using the 35mm lens. However I would love a really fast lens like the 1.4, I just feel it opens up areas for great creativity.

Anyone have both? And what's your preference?
