Now he needs a tacky Hawaiian print tourist shirt to go with his shades and camera. LOL

These are too funny.

Thanks Sis. We were at the Grand Canyon today.

Here's one at the "rim" of the canyon. A couple of kids saw me placing him out there, and both went "Awwwwwww".

And here, farther to the east.

Tomorrow, we will try to check out both the Antelope Canyons, as well as the Horseshoe Bend in Page Az.

I LOVE that last one!

Ya know, I might just need to get something to travel with us as we go around on our vacations - you look like you are having a ball with your photo camel! lol

Wonder if there are any stuffed crawfish around...

This morning we went to the famous Horeshoe Bend.

After we left there, we went to Upper Antelope Canyon.

Once the Camel came out, everyone was taking his photo (Super Star that he is )

On the way back to the parking lot, there was Rattlesnake Canyon on the left.
Just the two of us got to check it out on our own.

Here's another from Rattlesnake Canyon.

Tomorrow we are headed for points South of here (Sedona).

Here is a shot with "The Sisters" in the background.

We also met up with Michael (Verdesardog) and Amy. They took us to some Petroglyphs.

Thanks again Michael. We had a Great time!

Killjoy,

the pictures taken at eye level of the camel work best (the last of the first post, the one in front of the sisters).

I found out that an old telescopic antenna or pen and a little fishing line help a lot, because you can place the toy floating inside the picture at the correct place to give the illusion of proper perspective.

Also, with a point and shoot camera this kind of images is easier to do because of the bigger DoF and the hyperfocal distance starting sooner.

When I had to make some pictures of Teddy's Adventures for my daughter, these calculators here helped me a lot, specially the DOF calculator and the one for Dimensional Field of View.

Assuming the animal is 25 cm high and we'd like to have it take about 1/3 of the height of the picture, the whole picture should be no more than 75cm.
On a 1.6 crop camera at 20mm focal length this would mean the pet needs to be no more than 1m from the camera.

Checking with the DOF calculator, at 20mm and f/16 if you focus at 1.5m, the DOF should start around 70cm and go to infinity, so the whole thing would work.

With a 50mm on the same 1.6 crop camera, the toy needs to be closer than 2.5m, with f/16 focussing at 3.5m you'd have only a DOF from 2.4 to 6m, with the hyperfocal distance being over 8m. You would need f/32 (focussing at 4.5m) with that lens to get the right proportions. f/22 would give you only a DOF to 17m or so.

To sum all those number up: Wide angle lenses are good for these type of pictures, small sensors with big crop factors too.

I think I used my 10-22 for the shot with the Sisters in the background.
I have a couple of different DOF calculators in my iPod.
Thanks again for the info.
