friend of mine down the road has this wood burner its all he uses. He is a contractor so they get to cut and trim a lot of trees.

gaopa2, Here in the Middle of the Mitten these are very popular. You can use wood to heat your house and don't have to worry about having the fire (and the mess) inside the building. They work really well with hydronic heat, or there are heat exchangers you can mount in your forced air unit. May not do much for your "Carbon Footprint," but can really cut the cost of staying warm in the winter.
