I'll post a video soon - but yesterday I tried to photograph a fireball . I filled a balloon with gas and used a 325 volt discharge across a wire
to burst it . ![]() The balloon was cut open but the gas did not burst into flames ? Then [ shown in the video ] I put gunpowder down , used the hot wire to light the gunpowder - which then burst the balloon ..... but it still never caught fire ? Any suggestions on how I get the gas to burst into flames ? __________________

LPG/propane
I know it needs oxygen as well but you'd think it has enough around it as it gets released ? |

unless the ignition source is gone by the time it's mixed with O2.

lpg (auto) ignition temperature is about 900F/480C. How hot is the inside?

Also when the video is uploaded you will see another attempt with gunpowder under the balloon bursting into flames and popping the balloon - with no resulting fireball . |

Too lean or too rich of a mixture at the moment of ignition could be the problem

What you need to do is ignite the gas INSIDE the balloon.
This will burst the balloon as well. |

A pilot flame might work, although the effect could be a lot different than igniting from inside the balloon. I think you need to fill the balloon with a mixture.
