Default Panoramic Closeup

85mm f/1.8 for a thin DoF, but then taken as 35 different photographs and stitched together.

A long lens + thin DoF + up close panoramic, leads to a really nice atmosphere/bokeh. The full size JPEG for this is over 200 MB.

Thanks for looking

Cheers
Josh

Bump

I'm in love with this shot. The subject is completely simple, but the thin DoF combined with the panoramic technique give the image great presence. It's Fx quality DoF/bokeh from a DX sensor.

I'm going to start using this technique on a lot more of my photos.

Cheers
Josh

How did your subject remained so still for 35 shots?
What exactly are you doing within the 35 shots adjust the focus gradually?
Looks great

The subject was divided across 3 of the shots so she didn't have to hold still much. The top shot was her head, then the next her torso, then her legs. The rest of the shots make up everything else.

I put the camera on a tripod and set it to f/1.8. I focus on her eyeballs and switch the camera to manual focus so the focus will not change and remains fixed. Then I begin shooting the scene moving the camera on the ball head left to right them down and right to left then down and left right, panning the camera back and forth dividing the scene into rows of shots. I press the shutter every second or so after each move. Each frame needs a little but of overlap with the frame before it so Photoshop can stitch it all together for you.

The result is the DoF of a long lens wide open zoomed in, but with a wide angle feel to it.

Cheers
Josh

It's a lot of work for a subtle effect that honestly only other photographers would probably appreciate. LOL. No biggy.
