Default Net Float Abstract

This is a macro abstract I did with a net float. Did lots of post processing and used distort/twirl. It turned out really different.

I like this one too Colby. The only part I'm not sure about is the upper left corner. I can't decide if I like the dark corner and hard edge there or not... Hmmm...

BTW, what is a net float?

Athena,
A net float is a glass ball that is used to hold up large commercial fishing nets. Sometimes if you are lucky, you will find them on the beach. I have three that I have collected over the years. They are usually a light green glass. I wasn’t sure how to improve that edge. If you have any ideas, I would appreciate it. When I shot this. the float was on a hand hammered copper tray and I was about 1-2 inches from it. Thanks for looking and any ideas you might have. Feel free to play if you are so inclined.
Cheers,
Colby

Smile Re: Net Float Abstract

Thanks for explaining that Colby. I think I have a visual of it now.

Here's a suggestion for the edge. It takes out the harder contrast there, which pulls my eyes away from the rest of the image and as an added bonus it increases the amount of that beautiful blue in the image. I hope you like it.

I'm still undecided on it though. I must say there is a certain appeal to that edge up there, the "nothingness" that's behind it and various implications that creates.

Athena,
I do like your version and more blue is a plus. How did you do your enhancement? Did you paint, or clone? Thanks so much for your help. This is what makes the Camel so special, I have learned so much from the help I have received from a number of folks here.
Cheers,
Colby

I used the liquify filter and with the top tool (left hand side - called Forward Warp) I adjusted the brush size (right hand side under Tool Options) and pulled the blue upwards into the corner over the edge and also a little bit downward to work with your swirl.

Athena,
Thanks for the info, I will have a play with it. I haven't used the liquify filter much. I learn bit by bit, but it's so fun.
Cheers,
Colby

Athena,
This is my go at the liquefy filter. You instructions were great. I will have to use it more often.
Thanks again.

You're off to a great start Colby. You can play around with the brush density and pressure (both in Tools Options), and the brush size to keep more of your original texture in the pulled part. Also, the farther you pull, the smoother it gets, so if you want to go from point A to B, and you pull it in one smooth motion it will lose detail and become smooth, but if you pull it in 5 short strokes, you maintain more texture. I hope that all makes sense.

Keep experimenting and sharing your results with us.
