Default Dancing Smoke.... My first attempt at photographing smoke!

While searching for tips on high key photography, I stumbled upon a great site with lots of tips..

Gavtrain - Photography Training.

He had a video on photographing smoke..

Gavtrain - Photography Training: Smoke Photography made simple - week 62

I tried his tips.. but for one BIG mistake of not having his "blinders" to prevent light spill on the screen & camera.. (bad news) Well.. I'll do it again.. I used lightroom to pump up the shadows to control the spill

I used my 430 EXII plain & then with some of the Rosco gels I got this week.

Here are my first attempts... Please offer your comments!

In the last I see the elf but to me the 'lady' looks more like the 'Predator' from that Arnie Schwarznegger film!

I really like these - especially the first one.

These are beautiful - very good work for your first attempt. I can't wait to see more from you. I like the fact that you are creating your colors with gels rather than afterwards in photoshop.

Thanks Athena.

I thought everyone used gels to create colorful smoke patterns!! Never thought of Photoshop/lightroom...

The other thing people do with smoke shots in PS is invert them. Try it for an interesting effect.
