I suggest that you walk into an Apple store (if you have one near you) and have your questions answered and your curiosity satisfied about using a Mac. They will give you excellent service - no pressure. At least, you should be able to make an educated decision about which platform you will want to use - Mac or PC. Cost may be a consideration. It is kind of a crap shoot with the "big box" stores. You really don't know the technical expertise of the salesperson.
I work in graphics on both Mac & PC, but will admit that I am a Mac lover.
