I suspect it's the ICC profile at work. Don't images displayed on the web use sRGB? Maybe your image is Adobe RGB and it's being converted ? (Do you use 'save for web'?). I've been testing this out myself recently, following some info on this page http://www.gballard.net/psd/saveforwebshift.html.

Of course, it may be something else entirely, but it is something to bear in mind when publiishing images for web viewing.
