I never found the VR to provide a noticable benefit. Even if you do, you might want to consider the Tamrom purely for the contrast and colour. It's possible my lens was soft, but the colour on the 18-200 was never agreeable. It was hard enough shooting with the D70s and its rather dull rendering of colours, but the results from the Tamron made me think it came with a new sensor. =D
