I should have mentioned that if you want to have really good pictures without paying an arm and a leg, you should go with a D40 like mine (less the $500 w/ a lens). The picture quality is way beyond any P&S that I have ever used, and it isn't too much more money then the P80 you asked about. it all depends how much you want to learn about photography though. with a SLR camera there is a learning curve, and if you aren't satisfied with one lens you will need to spend even more money on another lens, but for me those are small downsides to the quality of pictures that I get from my D40. plus, the learning experiance is a lot of fun, especially with the great community here at photocamel.
