I got lucky enough that both the bride and her mom, within 2 days apart and without them knowing about it each other, asked me if I could do their wedding. Their rationale is that they had seen my work and they liked what they saw. Of course, this sounds like the typical story of friends asking others for wedding photography, but these are two not so ordinary women.
The bride has a degree in film, and is probably one of the world's best game designers. Her mom is an accomplished animator. Her dad also an animator, and has film experience working with photographers and such. In that sense, the stakes are in a way higher. "They know" a lot about these things, but even with that, some of the usual "good photographs somewhere else" may not transfer to "good wedding photographer" still applies.
So on that end discussing my style or not was already covered.
I decided on my own to get together with her and her husband to discuss some of the shots, some of the things, and also reinforce the idea- that I think I can do it, but that I have never done a wedding. Her husband at some point thought about that since what he read online. Me, I accepted too quickly, if I went back in time just before the day of shooting the wedding, I would probably have told myself "what were you thinking? Say no!"
Things are more complicated because the bride is a friend and one of my bosses at work too. Perfect recipe for disaster if things go wrong.

It is certainly a lot of responsibility, and my first teacher had warned me that while he thought I had the skills, that I will be "on the fire" and that I had to move quick, get it all and no excuses whatsoever. It was pretty brutal, but I learned a lot.
The good news is that I survived, I could have done several things better but I did as it was pretty good and now I am looking into doing this again several more times, having already talked with a first business meeting with the wedding locale manager. He approached me on his own, and I am not letting that opportunity pass. If I can get the equipment to pay for itself that would be great.
I am still working on their photos, so I am not done, but they liked a lot of what I showed them so far.
