I've never shot tethered before and really don't have a clue on how to do it. Can someone help me out here with the items necessary to perform the task and what software do you use for instant viewing?

The reason for wanting to do is that I have an upcoming Dance Studio shoot where there will be like 35 girls with individuals and group shots. So, lots and lots of pictures. My wife helps with this and last year I'd pass her the CF card after the group was finished and she would download into folders for viewing and ordering by the mothers there. So, I'm thinking that shooting tethered would allow your real time viewing and sorting to save her time.
