I've noticed the recycle time issue with my fl-36. Maybe for a long shoot you just need to keep popping in freshly-charged batteries (like using a compact camera)? Certainly I start each shoot with a fresh pair. I think the fl-50 takes four batteries rather than two but then I assume that means that it weighs more and is less compact (but maybe has more power to boot)? I like the way you can put the fl-36 in manual mode and quickly dial the power up and down as needed. At first I didn't think it swivelled side-to-side (just up and down) but I recently discovered the button for that (right above the lcd).
