I would tend to agree that this is the case a lot of times. But, there are probably some bad apples out there. Olympus would know. They could patch the firmware or replace the bodies/lenses to clean up any tarnished image they may be getting.
The E-3 is a BIG step up from the E-1 in a lot of ways. All the focus points is a big one.
