The current unavailability of the K-M 5D shortly before PMA brings back memories of what happened with the Canon D60 just before the 10D was announced. For about two months, it was just about impossible to find a reputable dealer with a D60 in stock at a reasonable price. The availability of the K-M 5D isn't quite as bad as the D60 was nor is it quite as hard to get; nevertheless, the difference strikes me as more one of degree rather than kind. It looks as if Konica-Minolta underestimated the demand for the 5D and shut off the production pipe a trifle too early. The 7D and lenses continue to be available.

I am fully expecting K-M or Sony to announce a successor to the 5D at the upcoming PMA show. It will be interesting to see how closely the new version sticks to the 5D and what new features it will have and what will be missing.
