The portability is the best feature. I have a G7 and can grab and go without any planning. With my 40d, I need to decide which lens(s), backpack vs shoulder bag, flash, etc. The G7 sits in a small case which clips on to my belt.
I wish canon made a flash with bounce capability smaller than the 430EX though...
