Did you convert them to 16-bit by any chance? PSE and others will not let you save to JPG if certain things are not JPG compliant. 16-bit is one of them...

By the way. Do NOT save "valuable" images that you may wish to re-work and/or sell as JPG. Every time you open and save over it, it will re-compress and in JPG terms that means "lose data".
