Concept is well explained...Just I wish to add few info about Camera Metering...

Nikon/Canon internal Meter is calibrated for 12-13% NOT 18%, which is 1/2 stop lesser than 18% Grey. So if you use grey card to set the exposure we need to add 1/2 stop to the displayed value to get perfect exposure.

Note: Calibrate the camera against 18% grey card and Histogram....I did my Nikon gear found 1/2 stop difference, which means internal meter is 12-13% Grey. It is also well documented by Thom Hogan in his website.
