How right you are. As long as I have enough light for shooting, I often use this lens. I get overall wonderful results with this. The glass is great, the VR works and the weight makes shooting standing up a pleasure.

P.S. I also like the 18-135mm, albeit not a VR lens, but the optics are quite good and the price is superb.
