Initially, I was going to buy a D3 as soon as I could figure out how to free up $5000. Hey, I miss my 17-35mm's "true" field of view, and there's the 51-point AF... sell everything except my lenses? Not really viable, considering that I'd probably still have to come up with money out of my pocket for the D3, and I'd be out a back-up.
Then I realized the D300 had the same AF system, and with vertical grip could use my EN-EL4 and EN-EL4a betteries. Hm, so I can buy a D300 + grip instead, and it'll do what I want. Plus, the added pixel density = nicer crops, and I don't have to start looking for something to supplement my 300mm. I almost preordered a D300....
...then I realized Nikon recently returned my D2H with a new insides (shutter, meter, etc.), and I've got a D2HS that's less than a year old, so I essentially have two fairly fresh cameras for work; it's not like I need a new camera.... =)
....so, look for me to be joining you with a similar thread on ordering a D300 soon... =)
