Since then, the big two have rested, and finally, publicly announced their intentions to replace their one or two year old models, and they will hit the streets in a month or so, if not already.
When? When they did commit to a date?

And Olympus is still mum about a public announcement, even though they have the world stage right now in being "THE" camera sponsor, and a major sponsor of one of the tennis's MAJOR tournaments, the US Open.
I would expect a multi million dollar company with good marketing research aware of a lot of things we are not (they after all tracked what Canon/Nikon would announce) to have a better context, better information as to why they are announcing when. It's easy to 2nd guess form a chair without having all the information and pretend to be the chair at Olympus, etc. Canon or Nikon announcing their cameras for whatever reason doesn't necessarily mean that Olympus should just jump the gun and come forward. There may have very good reasons for waiting as they are.

Seems to me they continue to un-impress a lot of Olympus fans, apparently not you, with their inability to get a replacement out there. If it is exactly what the leaked PDF claimed, they will only break even.
Well the PDF certainly looks pretty legit so that's probably it. Better reserve your D300. They have said the sale goes this year. Nothing you write at this point is going to change anything. You either wait, and take Olympus for what they are doing, or consider other brands. Or well, complain, but that won't get you anything.

In order for a new Olympus to "beat" or "compete" with a Nikon or Canon, it HAS to be a better camera. Period. From what I hear, read, etc., the Nikon D300 will stop the new E-3, even though it isn't really better overall.
Then jump. I for one as much as I admire what Nikon did, I don't want to carry a camera system that is bigger than what Olympus proposes. I also like the built in IS. Of course, I want to see the final product and see how it behaves, this doesn't mean I am walking into an E-3 blindly. OR maybe Ill just keep shooting with my e-410 which is fine. It gives me what I want for being small and because in the end I know that buying a new camera won't make me a better photographer, because that falls in my performance of my skills with what I know.

Quote:
So, Olympus better be holding its cards (still) to tweak it more or slap in something that wasn't leaked, like an odd or innovative sensor design. Olympus is noted as an innovator, and it doesn't sound like the E-3 is innovating anything, based on the leaked info so far. A new sensor would possibly change that.
No new sensor... better get used to it now. To me the last remaining question is the HDR patent. If that's in, then it will be quite competitive in image quality vs the new offerings and dare I say, probably better. But I am not expecting that patent. So it all falls down to final performance and price for me.

But! I can take all the photographs I want already, so I may as well not buy a thing.
