I'd say, go for it, if its in your budget. Obviously, there are more task specific displays for photo editing, but they are very pricey ($600+). The main thing to do is to extract all you can get out of an LCD by profiling it with one of the available hardware/software bundles. I use a Spyder2 Pro, but the other brands work well, too.
