A release granting editorial control is not a release that means anything. I can understand a subject or model wanting the rights to final approval... but then, Real Pros understand this is just not an option. With this kind of "Management" her career will go nowhere... Being a celebrity means putting oneself at the mercy of others abilities. No Photographer gets away with not making people look their best... and conversely, NO ONE gets away with holding the media hostage. In my experience, it's almost always the ones with no experience or established reputation that want to throw their weight around.
It sounds like you have a good handle on the issue... Personally, I would offer to destroy/delete all images from the shoot. or she could just sign a release that actually releases. Probably just chalk it up to a "lesson learned"...
