NO it isn't. You got 1000. Good for you. Canon says you "should" get 1000 from a fresh battery. BUT, that is no flash use, no LCD use, no chimping, no extra nothing.
Also, the BP-511 battery does not have as much life as the BP-511a battery. And temperature will also have a nice and profound effect on the capacity of the battery. I would also imagine that JPG vs RAW could be a big difference maker too. Image size/quality as well.
If a company say their battery can do 1000 images, then you should expect to get less than that. Just because you got 1000, doesn't mean that someone who got 600 is being cheated or something.
