This is for when you take long focal length photos like 200mm or more (and slow shutter speeds) and using a tripod. When the mirror moves out of the way of the focal plane the camera can vibrate a little. This option lets you set the time between the mirror moves and the photo is taken to allow the camera to stop vibrating
